7 Study Tips To Help You Ace Your Exams!!
I’ve actually spent a lot of my life studying, and although
I used to really dread learning, I find myself learning every opportunity I get
even if I’m not forced to. It’s really changed the my prespective on learning
things and education, and I actually have learned the Korean Language all by
myself because I really wanted to and really loved this beautiful language.
Although I guess it’s very different when you learn things you really want to
learn as opposed to forced to learn.
Either way it’s good to try your best at it anyways. You don’t know where it will get you!
1 1.
Sleep!!
More than 7-8 hours. Studies have shown that lack of sleep can make you
dumber!! Some people need 10 hours.. If you’re not getting enough sleep, try
taking a 10 minute nap before you start studying. Sleep cycles last 1.5 hours
in total so if you can fit in a whole cycle you’ll end up better rested! If you’re
not rested you won’t retain anything you’re studying and your just wasting your
time. Might as well go out and play!
2.Eat Brain Foods!!
Sugar and snacks make you crash and lose energie, and it's very easy to overeat because when you study you sometimes constantly shovel foods into your mouth. Try and eat a diet that's filling, that means food that is low in GI that will make you feel fuller for longer. Here are some brain foods you can try out:
>> Fish, especially oily fish.
>> Tomatoes.
>> Berries such as Blueberries.
>> Avocado.
>> Sunflower And Pumpkin seeds.
>> Brocolli.
I don't know about you, but it's very easy to feel peckish when you're studying. This could be a habit you want to break since you link studying with snackin, but this will take 3 months to really break so substitue healthy snacks like popcorn, fruit chopped into small pieces, dried veggies if you really need snacks. Remember making your snacks like fruit into even smaller pieces, the more you'll feel like eating without actually eating more.
3. Find Out When You Have The Most Energie!!
Work out when your highest functions hours are. It could be before school, or after school!! Study your most important things during that time when your brain is most awake and do lighter and enjoyable things during the tiem when you're brain gets tired. Working too hard does not make things easier to remember also the goal is to remember your notes not study for longer. Al long as you reach your goal you are doing great! So how do you work out your goals?!
4. Find Out What The Requirements Are By Asking Your Teachers After Class - Get A Plan For Each Subject!!
Some teachers will be very specific and clear about your subject requirments and outlines, whereas some teachers may not pass this on to you. Take some time and speak to your teachers and ask them if you're not clear. This should tell you what topics you should concentrating on and what kind of things exams are looking for. Don't be afraid to even ask your teacher directly something like " I really want to do well in this subject and I'm creating a study plan for myself. I would like to get a bit of direction from you though, what topics should I focus on and what kind of things will you be looking for in the exam?! "
If this doesn't work, perhaps a simpler question like " By the end of this class/ year what kind of things would you like me to take away from this subject?! "
There's no harm asking and it will also save you lots of time from studying things that may not be examinated.
After you gather this infos, plan out topics you are going to study and when.. Remember to organise it how it will suit you, you don't have to always study in the order that you learnt. Schedule this into a study timetable, and keep it somewhere on your desk or in your diary :)
5. Write Out Clear Notes, With Color Highlighters To Make It Fun!!
It's Always More Fun To Study With Colors and cool stickers and post it. Another thing I love to do is makeup easy rules for you to remember! You can also make a song or I used to record me reciting my Korean lessons and I just listen to them while I do other mundane things lkke cleaning up my room. You can record key points on a voice track too using your mobile and listen to them on the car. This is also great if you're eyes get dry and tired!
6. Teach A Friend Or Get Friend Or Family To Test You!!
I always learn when I teach someone, or when I get tested!! So if you get bored studying by yourself, schedule a once a week study session with a friend to teach each other a topic, or test each other. You can also get a family involved and get it right you get dessert. Make it fun ;) You can write up little quizzes for yourself too to pass onto your friends and family to test you on.
7. Reward Yourself And Celebrate!! All The Way!!
Don't forget to give yourself rewards everytime you complete a scheduled day's work and also when you do well in tests!! Linking a good studying session to a reward can help you look forward to studying instead of giving you a dreading feeling. If there is something you've wanted to but yourself or ask your parents for, you can negotiate that you get it once you've aces a test, did well on a self quiz or smaller rewards like a face treatments or pampering session for every time you finish a scheduled study session. There's never enough excuses to treat yourself!!
